The End: His followers will suffer

Jesus warns what will happen to his followers as the end approaches.  Is this what we have signed up for?

Matthew 24:9-10 ⁹ "Then they will hand you over to be tortured and will put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of my name. ¹⁰ Then many will fall away, and they will betray one another and hate one another. 

Many people sign up to follow Jesus because they think it has benefits... Jesus lists some here:

• You will be hated (by everyone!) because of Jesus
• You will be tortured and put to death
• Those you think are part of my community (your supporters and friends) will fall away, betray you, and hate you.

Do we ignore Jesus' teaching that being his follower is costly?
