Jesus teaches that those who ignore and silence the prophets will be left desolate. And yet, he also teaches that there is hope...
Matthew 23: 37-39 "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! 38 See, your house is left to you, desolate. 39 For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, 'Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.'"
The entire community will certainly pay for what has been done to the prophets - the entire community will be left desolate. But in the midst of Jesus' terrible prediction, we see a beautiful picture of our creator. He desires to bring us together like a mother hen gathers her babies under her wings. All that is required of us is a willingness to let him. Followers of Jesus have the desire for Jesus to gather us under his wings.
Jesus leaves them (and us) with this hope... we can cry out, "Blessed is the one (Jesus) who comes in the name of the Lord" and begin to follow him.
Do we ignore Jesus teaching to be willing?
“Jesus is Lord” is a radical claim. One in which we pledge our lives to follow him. And yet, most of us ignore the teachings of Jesus. We reimagine him so that he fits neatly into our world instead of letting him change our entire way of being. This blog was a devotional that walked through the gospel of Matthew (and a little into Mark)identifying where we are ignoring Jesus. And inviting him to change us.
